[it's sometime after that that he grabs Rebecca by the arm and drags her into the foyer, with little explanation for what he's doing. SORRY, REBECCA]

[Sousei didn't do his objective. Natsuo didn't want to do his newest objective. Professor never said what his second objective was.

Did an Editor kill him?

Rebecca looks woozy and like she's about to collapse. The only thing keeping her upright is Akechi's grip right now.]

[just. shuts his eyes, digging the heel of his palm into them as he tries to compose himself]

Are you saying then that Sousei-san misunderstood?

Neither of us are obligated to explain anything to you. Maybe it was just that or maybe it was more complicated, but need I remind you of the rulebook all of you were given? It wasn't just his objective he didn't complete, was it?

[It's not so much that Sousei was killed for being a Historian. He was killed for another reason.

She still can't think straight. But communicate with Sousei again. When they're free from the trial... they have to talk to the dead. Or at least try to.]

I do not know... As much as I may try to watch over you all, I cannot see the reasoning behind all of your actions. I cannot speak for him - and he seems like the type to express displeasure if I were to try.

But if you are asking me if I am aware of active sabotage - the answer is that I am not. I... apologize. I wish I could be of more help to you.

[yeah. he remembers the conversations he and Sousei had. about their roles. about the rules of the game. hell, a big part of him had admired Sousei for bucking against the system so readily]

If the Editors exist. . . then why does our rulebook specify that Historians may be called upon to kill non-cooperative Narrators?

What were to happen to the game if the Historians were completely wiped out, Dragon-san/

[Not only do they need to do their objectives- they also need to get the other Narrator's to follow their stories. Do their objectives. That's the number one thing they're supposed to be doing as Historians.

She covers her face and tries to pull herself all the way together, but really she's just listening.]

[After they're done talking to the Crafters, Rebecca's at least gained some color back, even if she's clutching at Akechi's arm to keep herself from falling.]

Do you have... any idea who the Editors are?

[They aren't really a faction on their own though. A Historian's continued survival isn't something that's a requirement for the endings.]

Sanji-san. I suspected he was the second Vizier, but there's a chance he's an Editor, too.

[at this point, Akechi's running out of questions. he glances at Rebecca, to see if she has anything else]

[Rebecca looks absolutely heartbroken at that name coming up.

No, that can't be true. Why would it- why should that be true? She swallows her immediate instinct to disagree with it.

Akechi's not an idiot.]

[Her head still feels stuffed full of cotton- it's hard to think through the fog of loss.]

The Editors there to kill if we don't do our jobs. Are we also here to make sure they do theirs?

Eichi confirmed he had a second title to me. I approached him, and asked if it was Vizier or Editor. He. . . refused to confirm either way.

I tried to get Belph-san to confirm whether he was or not to me, but. . . he wouldn't.

[and that is now why he suspects Sanji is an Editor]

[She's silent as she accepts this new knowledge. Belph didn't have a problem revealing he was a Vizier to her. There's no reason Sanji would be so cagey unless...

... Why did Eichi know?

Everyone should have plenty of reasons to be motivated. That was the idea, at least.

[She sighs. This is exhausting.]

I suppose he shared it with Eichi, sometime in the beginning.

Did you... ever ask why or did Eichi not want to talk about it? Do you think he knew Eichi was the shield?

[Because if she asks Sanji, and that's a big if she wants to know all the reasons Akechi thinks he's an Editor.]

He knew Eichi was the Shield, yes. Remember when Natsuo said someone asked Eichi to use his abilities to protect someone else?

That was Sanji-san.

[It feels so long ago now, even though it was only a few days ago. The Historians are getting decimated, aren't they?]

Do you know why or who he's trying to protect somebody else? ... Is Eichi protecting somebody else?

[down three in the span of two weeks. they sure are. that's part of why Akechi freaked out so much, although. . . he seems to have regained his calm]

Eichi can only protect people at the cost of his own life. Otherwise. . . the most he can do is send a name to the Blotters as a suggestion for who they should target.

Eichi has been protecting me up until this week. This week. . . he protected Sanji-san, at the second request of Zelos-san.
