I did as well. He informed me of his role. [Which he suspects Akechi already knows, so--]

What did you learn from him?

Quite a bit, actually. That he's aware of your place in this game, for one.

But also the existence of another role along the lines of "Historian" and "Vizier." One I hadn't heard of until now.

... Is that so, though? And what role would that be?

Editors.

A role similar to Blotters in nature. A role whose purpose is to kill.

I am not surprised that there are more roles designed to kill.

[A beat.]

...But even so, there must be some sort of difference that sets them apart.

Yes. I imagine there is.

Did you overhear my conversation with Tiger-san?

Yes, I did. Aggravating women, aren't they?

[Honestly... though hearing her threaten to put Akechi in time out was funny.]

Still, I believe you are on the right track with that. Rather--I believe there is likely a role that killed both Strider and Hijikata both.

[Because they were both kind of...outliers.]

Yes, and quite so.

Strider, yes. . . but what of Monika? Her death may have been less of an anomaly than Toshizo's, but that doesn't necessarily mean she wasn't also killed by an Editor.

There are, after all, two of them.

Do you know if they kill every week, and are required to do so?

[These are very important factors.]

I imagine they aren't required to kill every week. Remember, during our third week here, Natsuo was the only victim.

So they follow a different set of rules...that figures.

What, then, did Monika, Hijikata and Strider have in common?

[doublecrows]

I don't know.

[on the surface, there doesn't seem to be any commonalities]

Unless you already have an answer prepared, I'm not so certain we'll find a link so easily.

Unfortunately, I do not.

[He wishes, but...yeah.]

Sans the fact that they were killed simply and nondescript ways, I cannot think of any connection between the three of them as people.

Perhaps there isn't a link between any of the victims? Maybe each of them were chosen by pure happenstance.

[which, when he thinks about that in relation to Monika, kind of makes his blood boil. but he keeps that anger under wraps. . . for now]

At any rate, with knowledge that the Editor role exists, I believe we should be more specific in our questioning during trials.

"How many killers do we have this week, including those who would not be considered guilty?"

It is possible, though I find it hard to believe that someone would kill at random here.

... You are correct, though. We are narrowing down the situation, and nailing down the semantics. They will not be able to dodge our questions forever. This time, we will not have a repeat of the last trial.

Not at random, no. But for other reasons, such as the completion of objectives.

We must be more methodical, as well. That is partially your duty as well--whether you are truly a detective or not, people listen to you as if you are.

Keep the trials focused on the facts that matter.

I suppose they do not have anyone else they feel is capable, despite what you have done. If I had my way, you would be locked away for the duration of this--safe from any who might want to exact revenge, but also away from the others, as you do not have the right to truly walk amongst them as if you have done no wrong.
