[Week 1, Friday: Ann]

[Ann will find Akechi leaning heavily against the door frame of the kitchen, features pale, fingers curled into the front of his shirt. when he notices her, he looks up, and tries his best to speak between gasps of air]

T. . . Takamaki.

[it's hard to stay pleasant when you're having issues breathing thanks to physical exertion making digitalis poisoning symptoms worse!!]

H-- how are you? Are you all right?

[ She winces visibly. Ann is looking a tad pale, especially around the lips. ]

Honestly? No.

[ Her voice comes out a little raw, and there's a breathy accompaniment. Her chest moves far too rapidly and - you know what? It's actually a relief not to have to hide it. Ann nearly blacked out more than once during the investigation, trying to hold her breath. ]

My lungs feel like I just ran twenty minutes in the cold. What about you?

[doublecrows]

I. . . I-I actually did run twenty minutes in the cold.

[help Ann he is dying]

From the minotaur. . .

[varas]

[ oh crap ]

Akechi!

[ Forgetting her unease with him and her own physical discomfort, she immediately moves toward him (breath stuttering in her chest as she does). One hand rests on his shoulder. ]

You need to sit down, okay? Sit down, I'll get you some water.

[ and some for herself too because

ack ]

[yeah. ACK. as soon as Ann's hand hits his shoulder, Akechi slumps against the door frame, sliding down to the ground. he's just. . . going to sit here, thanks]

T. . . throwing the teacup into the well was a. . . m-mistake.

[varas]

Yeah... I know.

[ A few moments later, she returns with two glasses of water: one for him, which she hands over, and one for her. No longer caring for the precise niceties of their awkward situation, Ann slumps down beside him in the door frame. ]

Do you think we're going to die?

[doublecrows]

[it's hard to care about niceties and awkwardness when they're both, you know, dying. that's hyperbole but the point is there]

So long as our symptoms d-don't progress, no.

[he answers, before taking a careful sip of his water. it helps. not much, but it helps]

It's possible to suffer n-non-lethal digitalis poisoning. . . it isn't pleasant, but riding out the discomfort is better than the alternative.
